Michiel Robberecht
About
Michiel Robberecht is an awarded film director and photographer known for his short films and documentaries, yet his work spans both the artistic and commercial worlds. He has spent the past years living and working between Brussels and East-Africa.
After earning a Master’s degree in Arts & Literature at the University of Antwerp, Michiel fell in love with cinema and chose a path of self-discovery rather than formal film school. His filmmaking journey began in the Congolese rainforest, where he lived for six months in a remote village to create his first independent short film, Peer Gynt.
Michiel’s photography & photograhy journalism work is driven by a deep human interest, with his stories featured in publications such as Libération, Knack, and Nataal Media.
Alongside his artistic practice, Michiel has extensive experience as a director of commercials and branded documentaries, having created work for clients including Skol Brewery Ltd, the Nile Museum Rwanda, Tridal House, The French Institute, and Afriek Textile.
