Like Our New COCO Logo?

Meet our Logo Contest winner, Kai Foushee!

Kai Foushee is an illustrator, designer, and a tried-and-true artist. After making a ton of analog sketches, Kai was guided by a desire to create a logo that was legible, accessible, and friendly. By incorporating the classic hallmarks of our industry, a film roll and camera body, into the logo – Kai sought to add a bit of whimsy and character to COCO’s new logo, while trying to make it clear that COCO is here to honor Creatives of Color within the media production industry.

The OMPA judges chose Kai’s design because of how iconic and bold it was, and the way it complements the OMPA’s own existing logo. Kai’s design felt like the most suited for a variety of uses, and was highly memorable – sticking out in the judges’ minds long after the logo was no longer on the screen.

Kai currently resides in Newberg, OR, and is looking to move back to Portland. As a graduate from the PSU Design School (which, by the way, was recently named as one of the best design schools in the country for the 4th time in a row!!), Kai works extensively as a freelance designer and commercial illustrator, with a focus on packaging and brand design. Kai would love to branch out even further into illustration, and is always open for collaborative projects. Kai recently added ‘new mom’ to the list of her accomplishments, and has found that motherhood has opened up a whole new world of inspiration for her drawings. The books she reads to her young daughter are of particular note, and really bolster Kai’s belief that art should be, above all, fun!

Congrats to Kai, once again, for creating such a great logo and helping COCO jumpstart their new brand identity.

Keep an eye for exclusive COCO swag in the near future!
