Summer Film and Television Production Intern
Josie Blanke is a student filmmaker based in New York City. Born in Portland, Oregon, she grew up surrounded by creativity, shaped early on by a Waldorf education that placed art at the center of learning. Throughout high school, she stepped into performance through orchestra and theater. She developed a passion for the natural world through hiking and SCUBA. She uses this variety of interests as a foundation for her Film & Television studies at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Adopted as an infant, Josie enjoys creating work that focuses on identity and family. Her films are rooted in universal themes, often blending unconventional forms of storytelling to create a unique visual and emotional impact.
RECENT PROJECT:
During the fall semester of the 2025 school year, Josie worked on a short 13 minute documentary about fate and adoption. She pitched the idea to her documentary class, created a crew of student peers, filmed (across multiple locations) and edited the project. Most recently, "String Theory" was a finalist for a film festival within NYU Tisch called "Fusion Doc-In-The-Works" in early March, during which six finalists had opportunity to pitch the film to a panel of industry professions. String Theory also was selected to screen at NYU's documentary club festival in April 2026.
FILM LOGLINE: "String Theory follows two adopted subjects, Josie and Ellie, as they confront the alternate paths their lives could have taken. Were they brought to their adopted families by fate or simply by circumstance?"
