OMPA @ DWP: “Storytelling & Production: Insight Into Oregon’s Creative Content Industry”

Over the last ten years, Portland’s production industry has evolved into a tech-savvy, world-renowned hub of professionals and projects. We want to share the amazing work going on right here in your backyard through the voices of industry leaders in advertising, television, film, stop-motion animation, and interactive storytelling.
Each of our five guests will talk about how we got here, how the industry has changed, what’s being produced now, who’s doing it, and what it means for the creative community at large. We’ll also showcase highlight reels from each facet of the industry, and some exciting gear from local vendors for you to “Ooh” and Ah!” at.
We hope this State of the Industry style event will leave you feeling inspired and excited to access this vast talent pool and resources for your own work.

Meet Our Presenters
FILM | Tim Williams, Executive Director of the Oregon Film Office
Tim Williams has been both an executive and independent producer for more than 25 years and has partnered on projects with many companies in various capacities and locations with credits on many award winning titles. From 1998 to 2011 Williams was a partner, Co-President and Head of Production for GreeneStreet Films, a leading New York based independent film company. While there, he was involved in the production of nearly 30 features, producing or executive producing most of their projects. Latterly, he managed the company’s opening and running of their Los Angeles office followed by work with companies like Fox Searchlight and Film Finances. Williams started his career as a set production assistant and assistant director in New York on features, commercials and TV shows, and then worked for several years producing and directing new plays on the London Fringe in the UK.
ANIMATION | Alise Munson of HouseSpecial
Alise Munson is currently the Brand Strategist at animation studio HouseSpecial and was part of LAIKA’s communications team from 2005 to 2014. She approaches brand messaging from the users’ point of view to build bridges between brand goals and a human-centric integrated experiences without ego.
Alise is also the founder of a brand consulting company, Make More Awesome, and has worked with entrepreneurs, bands, filmmakers, designers and businesses to craft their content and position it in the most effective arenas. She was also President for two years of WeMake, a non-profit that helped foster art and design in Portland and active on the Design Week Portland content team.
Her newest project is Oregon Animation, a new online portal exclusively created for the stop-motion community to connect job seekers with opportunities.
ADVERTISING | Tiffany Golden, Producer at Wieden+Kennedy
Tiffany Golden is a Seaside, California native who made the move to Portland, Oregon in 2013 to work her magic at the world renowned creative agency, Wieden+Kennedy. For the past five years, she has been ascending in the advertising world, hitting her stride as an Integrated Producer working for massive brands, as well as effecting change in the larger Portland community. As someone who was exposed to the creative industry through Streetlights, the nonprofit creating ethnic diversity in the entertainment industry, Tiffany has made it her mission to continue to rise up and reach back, bringing everyone she can along with her. She leads 51%, the affinity group for the Women of Wieden+Kennedy, has supported and chaired Word is Bond, a nonprofit created to build relationships with young black men and the police force, as well as spearheaded the Creatives of Color Collaborative in partnership with Oregon Media Production Association, which recently recognized Tiffany with their 2019 Service and Inspiration Award for her substantial contribution to the betterment of the community. Golden isn’t just in her signature, it’s a trademark of the “Tiffany experience.”
TELEVISION | David Cress, independent producer (Shrill, Documentary Now, Portlandia)
David Cress’ career as an independent producer encompasses a multitude of genres. His work in music videos, advertising, feature films and now television has established David as a key contributor in vitalizing the industry that is growing steadily around him in Portland, Oregon.
As the founding partner of Food Chain Films, a company he led out of obscurity and into the spotlight, David has developed the ability to bring talent together and lead projects seamlessly to their fruition. His leadership, coordination and knack for creating an environment for directors to thrive in, has brought him clients such as Nike, Budweiser, MTV, Miller Lite and Pennzoil.
He is also known for his work on multiple films by internationally known director Gus Van Sant, including the critically acclaimed drama, Paranoid Park. He is more recently known for producing the hit comedy show Portlandia for which he was nominated for an Emmy in 2015. Other awards include work recognized by Peabody Cannes, Clio, CA, and One Show as well as Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Music Video at SXSW Film Festival.
INTERACTIVE | Tawny Schlieski, owner of Shovels and Whiskey VR studio
Tawny Schlieski is a research scientist, and a virtual reality producer. She is founder and president of Oregon Story Board, a non-profit dedicated to building diversity and inclusion in the VR economy, and she runs Shovels and Whiskey, a VR prototyping studio in Portland, Oregon. Her work centers on the role of technology in enabling new forms of communication, including rethinking education and collaboration, creation and play, and immersive technology at work. Her partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company on “The Tempest” delivered record breaking audiences, and two Innovation Lions at Cannes. Her current work leverages VR to teach students critical thinking and research skills; and AR to transform expertise transfer in the workplace.

Picture This Production Services is a fully integrated production services company offering support to the film, video and multi-media industry for over three decades. We are a unique company providing a combination of skilled professionals, large rental department, technical support and creative solutions all under one roof.
Will there be food and drinks?
Yes to both! Admission includes some light snacks and one drink ticket, which you can grab when you arrive. Please plan on being in your seat by 6:30pm.
What’s the parking situation?
There’s free street parking on all surrounding streets. Some areas have time limits, so please read the signs.
Is the venue ADA accessible?
Yes, we will be on the ground floor.
Is there secure bike parking?
Not on site, but there are places to lock your bike along 22nd outside The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company (an adjacent block to Picture This).
How can I get there by public transportation?
The Lloyd Center Max Station is less than a mile away from Picture This, or several bus lines can drop you off within a few minute walk of the venue.
From the Pearl District: Bus line 12 will drop you at NE Sandy and 24th, which is a 3-minute walk away. Bus #19 can bring you to NE Glisan and 24th, a 5-minute walk away.
From SE: Bus #70 can take you within a 10-minute walk; get off at NE Multnomah and 19th.

Definitely! Our events are always inclusive. Sometimes OMPA members get in for free or at a cheaper rate. See ompa.org/join for all the perks of being a member.
